Kimmo Pitkänen is the director of Helsinki Biobank. He is a biochemist with PhD from molecular biology of cancer. Pitkänen has experience from several expert positions at Academy of Finland, Tekes – the Finnish Funding Agency for Innovation, European Commission DG Research, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health and Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland FIMM, University of Helsinki. He has over 15 years of experience in biobanking infrastructure build-up, as well as in ethical and legal questions of biobanking. Since 2015 Pitkänen has led the build-up and operations of Helsinki Biobank, the largest hospital biobank in Finland, based at the Helsinki University Hospital.
