Our Location

Helsinki’s strategic location is a boon for international business

Helsinki is the commercial, political and cultural capital of Finland. Moreover, we are at the heart of the Baltic Sea Region, which is a rapidly developing market of more than a hundred million people. Helsinki is also at the geographical and cultural crossroads between East and West. We have a long history of doing business in Russia and are becoming an important business hub between Europe and Asia.

Helsinki is the capital of Finland and home to about a quarter of our population. It is central to every sphere of Finnish society – from public administration to economics, sciences and the arts, and it connects our Northern country with the rest of the world.

Helsinki is also at the heart of the Baltic Sea Region. The region covers 2.4 million km2 (nearly a million square miles) and includes key areas of the Nordics, the Baltics, Russia, Poland and Germany. The region is one of the fastest growing in Europe with 110 million people, a GDP of 1.4 trillion euros (2.1 trillion USD) and a GDP annual growth of 4.5% per capita.

We share our history with both Scandinavia and Russia and we sit geographically and culturally in the crossroads between the East and the West. Our intimate knowledge of our Eastern neighbour as well as our close cooperation with the cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg make Helsinki an excellent hub for exploiting business opportunities in Russia.

Helsinki also boasts the shortest, quickest and most environmentally friendly flights between Asia and Europe – making Helsinki an important hub for business between Europe and China, Japan and other points east.
