Ecosystems and strongholds

The business community in Helsinki is vibrant. The public and private sectors in Finland are working together to create unique systems of collaborative businesses. These clusters in specific industries allow a great deal of synergy and productivity that would not be possible working alone. Helsinki has six key ecosystems and a number of strongholds where the city is particularly competitive.

The source of business success has expanded from tangible products to technology and knowledge intensive businesses. Information technology, life sciences, logistics and environmental industries are some of the most developed ones in the world.

Helsinki’s six key ecosystems ( i.e. broad business areas or industries) are Cleantech, ICT, Life sciences, Design & Creativity, KIBS (Knowledge Intensive Business Services) and Logistics. Within these ecosystems are a number of strongholds (focused business areas ranging from clusters to niche sub-segment) where Helsinki is internationally competitive.
