The Finns are known as a hard-working people. Helsinki is consistently in the Top 10 for productivity in Europe. More than a third of Helsinki’s inhabitants have higher-level education, which is more than anywhere else in the world. The Finnish school system provides world-leading universal education, as confirmed by PISA studies over and over again.

In general, the workforce in Finland has very good ICT and language skills and is known for its high ethics and productivity. English as a business language causes no problems for Finnish workers as they are required to take English at all levels of their studies.

The availability of a highly educated workforce in knowledge intensive business areas is high. Finland’s world renowned, $12 billion annual innovation system owes its success to the researchers and other professionals working in Finland. R&D-intensive companies from around the world are taking advantage of Helsinki’s innovation ecosystem. The labor costs are relatively low compared to many other Western countries

The population of Helsinki is 1.34 million (5.4 million in the whole country). The size of the available workforce in Helsinki is 712,900 persons (2.7 million in Finland in total). 49 per cent of the workforce is men and 51 per cent women.
