Life Sciences

Over the past decades Finland has invested heavily in research and development in the field of biotechnology and life sciences. Close collaboration between companies, universities and research institutes have provided a fruitful development environment for the Finnish life science industry.

Greater Helsinki has an attractive base of  life sciences including 7 universities, 7 universities of applied sciences and several research centers. More than 300 companies operate in the life science sector in Greater Helsinki. These companies employ over 5000 people and and create revenue of 1,5 billion.

 The biocenters in the region provide an excellent research environment for scientists and incubator companies offer facilities and services for start-up companies in close vicinity to strong basic research. There are four campuses relevant to life sciences in Greater Helsinki: Viikki focuses on the biosciences, Meilahti on biomedicine, Otaniemi is a technology campus and the natural sciences are studied at Kumpula.
