Life Sciences
Life Sciences in the Greater Helsinki Region boasts some impressive numbers: 5,469 enterprises, 19,697 professionals and totals 3.5 billion EUR in revenues (2007 figures of Statistics Finland). Greater Helsinki, the capital region of Finland with 1.2 million inhabitants, has an attractive base of biosciences including 9 universities, 8 universities of applied sciences and several research centers. The biocenters in the region provide an excellent research environment for scientists and incubator companies offer facilities and services for start-up companies in close vicinity to strong basic research. There are four campuses relevant to life sciences in Greater Helsinki: Viikki focuses on the biosciences, Meilahti on biomedicine, Otaniemi is a technology campus and the natural sciences are studied at Kumpula.
